Mercury levels are rising and it is important to change our diet for summer.

From having watery fruits and veggies to keeping our bellies light — one should focus on what we consume during hot days. In order to stay healthy and to keep ourselves hydrated at all times, TOI lists some of the healthy foods one must include in their diet every day...
Watermelon
Keep it cool this summer by having juicy watermelon. A bowl of watermelon works like magic on a hot day. Considering its' summer and one has to hydrate themselves on a regular basis, watery fruits like watermelon can be a substitute for water. With the fruit boasting several health benefits, you can take it in the form of juice as well.

Buttermilk
What's a better way to beat the heat than treat yourself to buttermilk? Add some rock salt, powdered or roasted cumin along with some coriander leaves to make your buttermilk taste better. Having every day works well for your system as buttermilk helps yours digestive system run smoothly.

Yogurt
High-on protein, Yogurt is made for summer consumption. Carry one to work every day and you are sorted. It has a cooling effect on your stomach and keeps a check on your calories since it is low on fat.

Cucumber
They didn't say 'Keep it cool as a cucumber' without a reason. It is high on water content and one can have cucumber in several ways. Carry a box of cucumber sprinkled with salt and pepper, or take it in the form of juice/soup as well.

Tomato
Many people don't know that tomatoes act as a natural sunscreen protecting our skin from harsh sun rays. Include tomatoes in your everyday meal — as a salad or add it to your regular meal.
Oranges

Citrus foods work well during summer and oranges are a must during summer. They are high in fibre, vitamin C and also provides necessary sugar to your body.


Coconut water

You will find numerous shops selling coconut water during summer. Reason? It keeps you cool during summer. It quenches your thirst and boasts several health benefits too.


Sugarcane juice
In order to retain water in your body, have a glass of sugarcane juice. It also helps in cooling off body heat, which is beneficial during summer. Since it already has sugar, don't add extra sugar to the juice. This way, you can keep a check on your weight.

Take plenty of water and water consisting fruits and vegetables to keep you hydrated. Wherever you go take water with you.
Avoid spicy and heat generating foods.....if you happen to eat them take watery buttermilk, water, tender coconut water, etc to cool your body.

Salads generally served in room temperature or chilled. BUt for this weather we cant have it chilled so for a change lets have warm or hot salad..... STIR FRY SALAD2 Ingredients: carrot-1 fresh green peas-3tbsp beans-4nos black sesame seeds-1tsp olive oil or sesame oil-1tbsp salt a pinch pepper or chilli flakes a pinch optional onion-1 Method: Using the peeler peel the carrots after cleaning it. cut bean into thin stripes. cut onion into thin pieces. You can use any type of vegetables in thin strips. Heat oil and stir fry all the vegetables by tossing it. Make sure the vegetables are just heated but not cooked more than half. MUDAKATHAN KEERAI / BALOON VINE PLANT RECIPES The Tamil system of medicine has incorporated Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha system to treat a number of everyday problems with natural herbs and minimal side effects. One such herb is the Mudakathan keerai. The botanical name is Cardiospermum halicacabum, but it is commonly known as the balloon vine. Found locally in villages and peripheries of Tamil Nadu, it can be identified as a climber having balloon like fruits. The leaves, roots, seeds and the baby leaves of this plant are all used for kaleidoscopic medicinal purposes. It can be used both internally and externally. Mudakathan keerai or leaves has strong  anti-inflammatory  properties. It gives noticeable relief in patients of arthritis, joint pain and even gout patients. The oil made out of this herb can be used externally. The powder obtained from the leaves is mixed in popular south Indian dishes and is used for internal consumption. A combination of the two gives faster re
